5 Agricultural Blogs to Follow

As you work on developing your social media presence there are many, many sources of information. So many in fact its easy to be overwhelmed. The best way to control the flow of information is to pick a handful of sources and stick with them. Venture out occasionally when those sources suggest links which seem 1. Timely 2. Pertinent to your causes and 3. May have information you can use.

Because I work with several ag groups I follow Agriculture through several bloggers. Below are 5 suggestions of what I think are some of the best from the Agriculture-Blogosphere.

#1 Michele Payn-Knoper http://www.causematters.com/

This blog is essential for both its ag content, and it’s social media content. She focuses on agvocacy, ag+advocacy, and has a lot of great information and resources on her page. Michele’s real passion for connecting “farm gate to consumer plate” shows in her posts and the posts of guest bloggers on her page.

#2 Cheryl Day http://www.agweb.com/blog/a_passionate_voice/

Cheryl’s blog is indeed a passionate voice for agriculture. Her blogs are very timely, and often I hear of coming events from them. She lays it all out there, giving you the strait facts and backing them up with research and references.

#3 Mike Rowe http://www.mikeroweworks.com

Mike Rowe is quickly becoming one of my hero’s, and it has nothing to do with Dirty Jobs of which he is the star. It has to do with his “Brown Before Green” campaign, and his common sense blogs. Mike is a champion for hard work, farming, and reconnecting with our land.

#4 Mike Haley http://haley-farms.com/blog/

This is a blog I got connected to through Twitter and #Agchat. For those already in agriculture there may not be anything new to you in this blog. However, it is a great blog about the daily trials and triumphs of farming. The blog is real, personal, and touching.

#5 Natural Resource Report http://naturalresourcereport.com/

A combination newszine and blog, covering mostly Oregon issues. It contains posts by many other organizations. Because of that its a great time saver. Instead of following many pages; Farm Bureau, Corn Growers Association, Oregon Dept of Ag (to list a few of the recent posts) you get it all distilled down on one page.
