New Blogs

February 10, 2012 Leave a comment

I haven’t been blogging a lot recently as the Tech Chef because this year I’ve picked up several new blog costumers. It’s a classic case of the plumber with leaky pipes, or in my area the grass seed farmer without a lawn (that would be my uncle, 1,000 acres of grass seed… no lawn at his house.)

My new blog clients are Fundraising Success team, Conquering Nonprofit Chaos (blog and podcast), Mike Silva International (blog and #1 Man podcast), and Matthew 10 International.

Everyone on a nonprofit board of any type (Agriculture, Christian, Social Good, Reading/Library) should really check out the Fundraising Success team, and the Conquering Nonprofit Chaos podcast.  Both offer great free advice to help you get your nonprofit rolling on the right track.

I’ve already been learning a lot about what it takes to have a successful organization. I knw that these ideas and tips could help a lot of you too. I know that many of you subscribed to my blog are on ag related boards (Agri-Women, Agchat, Farm Bureau, etc.) The tactics taught on the Fundraising Success Team, and Conquering Nonprofit Chaos page would go a long way in helping us with our agvocacy goals.

“This online community is designed especially for nonprofit development directors by people with a combined 75 years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Here these authors, consultants, teachers and trainers will share with you the kinds of ideas, tips, tactics and strategies that have proven successful for hundreds of nonprofit development directors.”

The fun things I get to do at my part time job at an after school program includes playing with liquid nitrogen. Of course its really a demonstration of the states of matter… but still loads of fun.

Reading #FlashMob in Albany,OR

January 12, 2012 Leave a comment

Feb. 20th from 11-noon at the Downtown Library

302 Ferry St SW Albany, Albany, Oregon

Bring a book, bring a dollar; help save our library.

Albany’s first reading flash mob will be Monday Feb 20th from 11-noon at the Downtown Library. All ages are invited.

Getting involved is easy. Show up at the library between 11 am and noon on Feb 20th. Read for 15 mins to an hour (Bring your own book or check one out.) Drop a dollar in the jar, and you’re done. Of course you can do us a favor by passing this on to a friend.

We’d love to have 200 people or more all reading at the same time, in the same place to show our community support.

See the Facebook event page for the latest info, or watch my blog for more event details. I am super excited to be in charge of this great event. Working with me on this event are the library, the downtown association, the visitors associations, the Community After School Program and even a local writer. And my favorite book site LibraryThing.com has offered to promote it too! What a great group coming together not only for the cause of reading, but to help save a beloved Library from budget cuts.

Saying Goodbye to 2011

January 9, 2012 Leave a comment

My grandparents taught me that if you care about something it’ll show in the way you use your time, talents and money. It’s not just a matter of talk, you gotta walk the walk. Looking back on the clients and projects I had in 2011 does a pretty good job of showing those things I care about. They were small businesses, non-profits, agriculture, and Christian charities. Which makes me a little proud, because my clients support causes I can stand behind.

Here’s just a small review of what I was up to in 2011:

I’ve already written posts about my work with ServeINC and Forever Changed International, both of which are Christian organizations.

I also worked on these Facebook pages for Christian Organizations.

#1 Man : The Book and Podcast

A book by a women in my church about her mom’s incredible life; full of challenges and heart-break, but also with hope around every turn.

I also worked with several small businesses this year. My “biggest” small business client is Ciddici’s Pizza in Albany. I do almost all the computer work at both locations, including programming their point-of-sale touch screen system. I also manage their Facebook pages, and he has just (last night to be precise) contracted me to build them a new website!

Some others small business work I did this year includes a new website for Henna by Rebecca, a blog and Facebook page for Renaissance Costumes & Clothing, and a Facebook page for Stems & Stuff.

Were I really got busy this year was working for Ag organizations and agri-business.

I’m the social media chair for this great volunteer organization of women from all over the country who come together to support, educate, promote and unite agriculture. I help with all aspects of social media, including doing trainings at their last two national conventions.

As part of my work with American Agri-Women I created a page for Orion Samuelson, for his 50 years in Ag broadcasting.

Oregon Women for Ag

My grandmother helped start this state organization in 1969. Oregon Women for Ag (OWA) was one of the founding groups of American Agri-Women. I’m the social media chair for this group too, doing Facebook, Twitter, and helping create social tools for event/volunteer sign-ups.

I also helped Oregon Wheat Growers League launch their Facebook page, and made new webpages for Three River Ag consulting and Women Changing the Face of Agriculture.

I also made a TON of Facebook landing tabs this year, for many of the groups you see mentioned and several more. Click here to see the Welcome/Landing tab gallery.

2011 was a very active, very productive year. I’m looking forward to 2012 and the new projects I already have lined up and waiting for me.

A little grainy I know, but this is why I wasn’t at #agchat last night; Oregon beef, Idaho potatoes, home-cooked goodness.
